| Message | My maternal uncle and cousin served in Korea. I was four when the war began and remember it well including my mother purchasing the 78 rpm record: "God Bless Our Boys In Korea". Over the years, I was allowed to play it as often as I wished. I was surprised that your site was the only place I could find mention of it using a Google search. My cousin, Leornard Hebb, USA was KIA, my uncle Donald R Lipscomb was wounded at the same time and survived. I am a Marine Viet Nam Vet and later served as an Army Chaplain and United Methodist Pastor for 32 years. |

| Message | I served with the 801st Medical Air Evacuation Unit, U.S. Air Force from 1952 until 1954. Our Unit was composed of Flight Nurses and Aeromedical Technicians. Of course we also had the Admin & support people in our squadron to arrange for the aircraft, ground transportation and billeting Our home base was Tachikawa AFB, Japan. The 374th Troop Carrier Wing provided our airborne transportation as we air evacuated the seriously wounded from many K-operating locations back to Japan and onto Okinawa, Clarke AFB Phillipines and some back stateside to Hawaii and the ZI. The 801st Med AirEvac Unit was the ONLY unit providing air evacuation of the wounded during the Korean War. We had many reunions within the last twenty years. As we get "longer in the tooth" it is very difficult for many of us to travel any longer. Our last formal reunion was held in Washington, DC when the Department of Defense put on a 50th Anniversary of The Korean War program at the DC Convention Center to honor the veterans of all military branches for their service during the Korean War. I am honored to have served. Please list the 801st MAES in your USAF directory as the only Medical Air Evacuation Unit during the Korean Conflict. (Check book on the history of the USAF to confirm). Thanks to the 374th for many safe landings under very difficult circumstances and God Bless! |

| Message | I was in the Korean War 1951-52 in Gloucester Regiment. I was attached to them as a ramc cpl. Later I went to Japan and met Cpl Derek Hirst ramc. I relieved for him to go home and he taught me the job he was doing. We were together for one month as he had to wait for a boat. Following that in 2002 there was a program on tv called Forgotten Heroes Derek Hirst was shown on this. I would like to get in touch with him if i could. Any news of him would be great. Thanks. |
