About three days before I rotated I was asked to participate in a recon of the
Old Baldy/Pork Chop Hill area . This was that recon. Note that the
Columbians were represented in the action. Also note that this area was
below the ridge- line so it was out of direct observation by the Chinese.
From the top of the hill at the left was an open view of Old Baldy which was
in the hands of the Chinese. Pork Chop was still ours but in three days the
Chinese would attack in force to take Pork Chop. At this time the 2nd
Battalion was in blocking position a mile or so south of this point. There is
