This is the day we were all looking for—except for the fresh troops who had
just landed and were loading on the train for a short trip north. This was our
last close-up view of Korea, loading on to a craft at Inchon that would take
us out to a troop transport that was laying off in deep water. It was to be a
short trip to Sasebo, Japan, for some processing and waiting for another
ship. I ran into one of my old buddies at Sasebo. He was waiting for the ship
we got off. He gave me some direction about things to do in Sasebo.
