Music to Remember

Here you will find links to enjoy the melody of music that Korean War veterans generally remember with fondness.

Remember Shina No Yoru? Its English title is "China Night", but American veterans sometimes called it, "She Ain't Got No Yo Yo." This song was found on the Korea 1954 website of John Sexton. Sexton served on the DMZ for 11 months in 1954. The location of his website is: http://www.sunsetweb.com/korea/.

Another tune familiar to Korean War veterans is a children's folk song called "Arirang." The English meaning of the title is "Eastern Love Song." According to the website, "Veterans of Panmunjom, Korea, Joint Security Area Advanced Camp", Arirang is "a story about a disappointed maiden who hopes that her departing sweetheart will have sore feet before he has gone ten li (about two and a half miles) and have to return to her." Many Korean War veterans will remember this sweet folk song because Korean children commonly sang it. Visit the website at http://members.aol.com/panmunjom/ and click on "Name That Tune" to learn more about Arirang.

This is the song of the 7th Cavalry Regiment: http://www.contemplator.com/ireland/gowen.html
if you belonged to a unit in the Cav you heard this one quite often. Best....Marty
